Quickly Checking on Bees

By tadge, 17 January, 2021

I took a quick trip to one of the locations that I have my bees. Knowing that yesterday, January 16th, was at least warmer than it had been weeks prior and that generally this winter has been mild I thought I would give a knock on the hive. Usually a few raps on the side of the hive is enough to get a response from the bees whether it is a loud buzz or them looking out the entrance to see who is there.

After a few knocks on the back of the hive and putting my ear against the hive, I walked back around to the front and sure enough I had a couple of bees at the entrance seeing what was going on. So hopefully in a few more months we will be able to get back into the hives and see how everyone is doing. It is funny but all winter I think about how am I going to make more bees next spring.

I keep building bee boxes wondering will I have enough or too many? Well it may be a few more weeks till we find out, so till then I am going to keep building.
